My friend, Vik Eldemir, suggests that we replace Treasury Secretary Paulson with a US Air Pilot. Then perhaps investors and homeowners might have a chance of surviving the crash. Without a doubt, the pilot of Flight 1549 demonstrated the qualities we need in the financial cockpit: cool under pressure, good instincts, and above all, the skill to bring his bird in for a soft landing.

Who knows, perhaps the still-anonymous pilot will become Obama’s counterpart to Joe the Plumber, a welcome symbol of one individual taking control and and saving the many from near-certain disaster. Wanna bet the pilot shows up at the Inauguration?
